The module on sleep is one I could make a lot of connections to because I have recently listened to "Why We Sleep" By Mathew Walker PhD, Walker is a neuroscientist and this book was really fascinating on why the body needs sleep and what happens when we don't get enough of it. All eight tips mentioned in the module on how an individual can improve sleep were also mentioned in Walker's book and expanded upon.
Another one was in the modules about stress and how to handle it and how one of the ways to deal with and get rid of stress was by laughter, I took Laughter Yoga at SLCC and it was definitely a class to look forward to but it also really did help me relieve my stress. Today I still use some of the exercise I was taught in that class and I've taught them to my family so they too can work on reducing their stress.
Before taking this class I knew how important life wellness is and what great life long benefits come from living a healthy active life, that's one of the reasons I took this class. Keeps me honest in getting up in the morning and actually going to workout. The the modules that have been most interesting have been the components of fitness like the stretch training basics and exercises. What has been the most influential is the blog post about the four myths about strength training for woman. I learned that a lot of what even I thought about woman lifting weights is a myth and going forward I need not worry about doing some extra weight training exercises to help strengthen muscles.
In the document below I talk about my sleep schedule and I know it can be better I am also trying to keep it within what Walker talked about with late afternoon coffee and consistent sleep wake schedule.
